Warsaw Stories: the capital city in the starring role

Warsaw is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the most commonly featured cities in Polish cinema, having been used as a setting for the plot, as well as the main subject of certain films. Warsaw Stories brings together six individual stories that are intertwined. There is a very rich selection of characters in the film, including a former prisoner who has visions of the Virgin Mary, a shy businessman, a daydreaming saleswoman employed in a sex shop, a teenager who wants to run away from his village, a depressive alcoholic and a single woman whose life is dictated by her work for a big company. So many solitary, alienated characters living in a modern metropolis, in which day-to-day life is far from idyllic.

The various screenplays that come together as one, attempting to summarise the reality of life in the Polish capital, were written by the directors themselves. Featuring among the varied cast are some young actors and several well-known ones, such as Eryk Lubos, Zbigniew Zamachowski, Lukasz Simlat and Piotr Machalica. The film is also particularly notable for the work of its DoP, Arkadiusz Tomiak. Produced by Wlodzimierz Niderhaus for WFDiF, Warsaw Stories has benefitted from backing by the Polish Film Institute. Distribution in Polish cinemas is being headed by Phoenix Film Distribution

Among the films featuring Warsaw itself in a clearly visible role, we could highlight well-known titles (Warsaw by Dariusz Gajewski and the recent Stones for the Rampart [+see also:

by Robert Glinski) as well as productions that have been successful online (Warsaw 24h by Maciej Margas and The Palace by Tomasz Wolski), without forgetting Timelapse Teaser Warsaw by Adam Kaluszko and Rafal Kruszka, a project that is currently in development.
