Film London turns 10

Film London is now 10 years old. Capitalising on the latest tax relief for games, it will work to establish London as a games hub and has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with UK Interactive Entertainment (UKie) to explore the feasibility of a range of possible activities including a new international trade strategy for games and a major B2B games event in the capital in 2015.

Under the aegis of its micro-budget Microwave scheme, Film London will invest over £2 million in training, development and financing, thanks to a new partnership with the British Film Institute, and support from returning partners BBC Films and Creative Skillset. The organisation will also invest more than £1.7 million in the capital’s film culture and film heritage over four years, with a specific focus on the outer boroughs where provision is currently under-served.

Film London Chairman David Parfitt said, “In the face of a rapidly-changing media landscape, now could not be a more exciting time to expand and work with the wider content industries to ensure this great city continues to lead the way in driving forward creativity, innovation and originality on screen.”

Mayor of London Boris Johnson said, “Congratulations to Film London, which for 10 years has helped transform our city into one of the world’s greatest filmmaking centres. In promoting London’s phenomenal talent, cutting edge facilities and iconic locations, it has been fundamental in turning the capital into a global production hub. From Jack Bauer fighting terrorists in 24: Live Another Day to an invasion of Jedi knights and storm troopers as Star Wars 7 lands, London is at the heart of a thriving sector that generates billions for our economy.”
