Grand Prize for The Tribe at the Critic's Week
- CANNES 2014: Victory at the Critics’ Week for the feature debut by Ukrainian director Myroslav Slaboshpytskiy, who also snagged the Visionary Award
Chaired by British director Andrea Arnold, the jury of the 53rd Critics’ Week at the 67th Cannes Festival awarded the Grand Prize 2014 to The Tribe by Ukrainian filmmaker Myroslav Slaboshpytskiy. It is a film that exclusively uses sign language to tell a story of love and hate, featuring a mafia clan and a man who does everything in his power to save the woman he loves.
Better still, the film was also awarded the Visionary Award, the jury for which was under the chairmanship of French director Rebecca Zlotowski. This fine double win (with the added bonus of broadcasting support courtesy of the Fondation Gan) also benefits The Tribe’s international seller, French firm Alpha Violet.
