In a week that has seen quite a poor crop of new releases in German cinemas, it is worth mentioning the launch of a comedy about intergenerational conflict, which uses an original premise as its starting point. Indeed, Wir sind die Neuen, the third feature film by Ralf Westhoff, completely reverses the usual roles by setting up three sixtysomethings who have run out of cash as house sharers, just like when they used to be young hippies, in the flat next door to that of three hard-working law students.

And so, Anne, Eddi and Johannes (Gisela Schneeberger, Heiner Lauterbach and Michael Wittenborn) – over the moon at having rediscovered the lifestyle they once used to enjoy during their crazy years – drink, put the world to rights and play records at full blast until dawn, which the conscientious Katharina, Barbara and Thorsten (Claudia Eisinger, Karoline Schuch and Patrick Güldenberg) find intolerable; in turn, the students' middle-class behaviour comes as a big shock to the three older party animals.

The screenplay for this entertaining story was put together by Westhoff himself, and the director also produced the film through his own company, Ralf Westhoff Filmproduktion. Wir sind die Neuen is distributed by X-Verleih.
