Tribute to Marion Hänsel
The Commission for International Relations and the French Community in Belgium’s Ministry published a book dedicated to Belgian filmmaker, Marion Hänsel, who produced the Oscar-winning international hit, No Man’s Land, directed by Danis Tanovic. Edited by Jacqueline Aubenas, the book follows Hänsel’s life and career (she started out as an actress) that took her to international locations as wide apart as Hong Kong and South Africa, to produce films starring some of Europe’s brightest contemporary talents including Stephen Rea, Jane Birkin, Carmen Maura, John Lynch and Charles Aznavour. The book contains a rich photographic archive.
Hänsel’s most celebrated films include Lit (nominated for a César), Nuages (presented in Critics’ Week in Cannes), Dust (winner of a Silver Lion in Venice), Les noces barbares (winner of the Europe Prize), Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea (selected for the official competition in Cannes) and The Quarry (winner of the Grand Prix in Montreal).
