Written by the director together with her regular collaborator Jean-Luc Gaget, the story sees Samir, a big, lanky fellow of around 40 who works as a crane operator in Montreuil, fall head over heels in love with Agathe, a bubbly young brunette who he bumps into in a café one day. When he finds out that she is a lifeguard at the Maurice Thorez municipal swimming pool, he cannot think of any other way of getting close to her than to sign up for swimming classes with her – even though he can swim perfectly well already… But his fib doesn’t even last three lessons, and Agathe really hates liars. So he gets found out, Agathe is furious, end of story. Well… almost.

Produced by Patrick Sobelman (who collaborates with the filmmaker on a regular basis) for Ex Nihilo, L'effet aquatique is benefitting from a co-production by Icelandic outfit Zik Zak, a pre-purchase by OCS (Orange Cinéma Séries), backing from the Indéfilms Sofica and aid from the Icelandic Film Center, among other support. The shoot will take place for ten days in France (in Montreuil, Paris region) before continuing in Reykjavik for 20 days next May. Distribution in France and international sales will be handled by Le Pacte.
