- The three Production Awards have gone to projects hailing from Singapore/Thailand, Argentina and South Africa, while the Post-Production Award was given to a Greek project
The main awards at the TorinoFilmLab, which were handed out yesterday at the end of the seventh Meeting Event (24-26 November), have all gone to non-European titles. The international jury, chaired by Alberto Barbera and comprising screenwriter, director and producer Álvaro Brechner (Uruguay), head of the Netherlands Film Fund Doreen Boonekamp (Holland), producer Marta Donzelli (Italy) and producer Sophie Mas (France), bestowed the three Production Awards (adding up to a total of €160,000) upon Popeye by Kirsten Tan (Singapore/Thailand – €60,000), Hunting Season by Natalia Garagiola (Argentina – €50,000) and The Wound by John Trengove (South Africa – €50,000).
On the other hand, the Audience Award (worth €30,000), voted for by the 200 decision makers present at the Meeting Event after they had assessed the various FrameWork projects, was handed to Kodokushi by Janus Victoria (The Philippines/Japan), while the new Distribution Award (valued at €43,000), intended for the implementation of innovative strategies for reaching audiences at the time of distribution, was given to Eilon Ratzkovsky, of July August Production, which produced Mountain [+see also:

film profile] by Fien Troch (Belgium); the EP2C Post-Production Award, which is handed out to a FrameWork project and allows the producer to take part in a post-production workshop, went to Phaedra Vokali, of Marni Films (Greece), the producer of Pigs on the Wind by Stergios Paschos. Lastly, György Pàlfi and Gergo Nagy (Hungary) took home the Les Arcs Coproduction Village Prize for The Voice, an award that entails an automatic selection for the Arc 1950 Coproduction Village for one of the Script&Pitch, AdaptLab or FrameWork projects; and Italian duo Pietro Marcello and Alfredo Covelli won the new Digital Production Challenge II Award, granted by Focal Resource, for their project A Backwards Journey. The prize will allow them to take part in the DPC II workshop.
