Encouraging interactive digital creation between Belgium and Canada

Encouraging interactive digital creation between Belgium and Canada

In May 2011, Wallimage set up a range of subsidies dedicated to cross-media creations, via the Creative Wallonia incentive programme. The aim was to support a type of production that is emerging in Wallonia and to assist with the development of the Walloon digital industries on a local as well as a European level. Two years later, Wallimage gave a more detailed explanation of its backing and outlined the difference between two sources of funding: one dedicated to the digital promotion of audiovisual works, and the other destined for cross-media creation as such, in a Euroregional dynamic that groups together Flanders, the Nord Pas de Calais region of France and Wallonia under the name “Expériences Interactives”.

This dynamic has again just expanded its international scope with the announcement made by the Canada Media Fund and Wallimage, explaining that an agreement has been finalised that aims to set up an incentive with a view to encouraging the co-development and co-production of digital-media projects between producers on both sides of the Atlantic. The budget for this Canada-Wallonia digital-media incentive for multi-platform projects has been set at €425,000, with each funding partner investing half of the total amount. To be eligible, the projects must have some interactive digital content, explore a transmedia approach to innovative or experimental content production, and be developed on an appropriate platform with regard to content and audiences.

The maximum contribution for each of the in-development projects that are funded will be €70,000, while this figure will be €350,000 for in-production projects. The projects must not yet have received any support from either of the partners, and this measure will not be applicable to the extension or continuation of existing concepts.

The incentive is already open for applications, and the submission deadline is 2 February 2015.
