, will receive the Nordic Honorary Dragon Award at the 38th Göteborg International Film Festival, which takes place between 23 January and 2 February 2015. Instigated last year (and given to Icelandic director Baltasar Kormákur), the prize is handed out to “an inspiring Nordic filmmaker whose work deserves special attention, now and forever”.

“Ullmann is one of the most distinguished actors and directors in Nordic film history. Her sharpness and sensitivity have made a deep impression on film lovers worldwide, and the intelligence and elegance with which she handles Miss Julie make her the ideal beneficiary,” said the Gothenburg gathering’s artistic director, Jonas Holmberg.

Twice nominated for an Oscar (for Swedish directors Jan Troell’s The Emigrants/1971 and Ingmar Bergman’s Face to Face/1976), Ullmann cast Jessica Chastain, Colin Farrell and Samantha Morton in the leads of her Strindberg adaptation, which was launched at Toronto and has since toured the international festival circuit.

Scandinavia’s largest showcase, which this year took more than 135,000 admissions for almost 500 films from 76 countries, will screen Miss Julie in a Focus on Norway, “probably the Nordic film country that has made the strongest progress in recent years, both artistically and audience-wise”, according to Holmberg.
