12/12/2014 - The director’s drama about intimacy will start shooting next spring

One of the most interesting of the ten films developed by Romanian female directors (see the analysis) will be an exploration of intimacy: after a long period in development, Adina Pintilie's debut feature, Touch Me Not, is in pre-production and will start shooting next spring in Romania and Germany.

Pintilie is currently casting her drama, which centres on three characters with intimacy problems: Laura, a 50-year-old woman who avidly observes those around her in order to compensate for the disappointments she encounters in her personal life; Tudor, an actor-dancer who earns his living as a masseur and dreams of a relationship with a woman who would reject him; and Helga, Tudor's colleague, who has a relationship with a much older man. The lives of the three characters collide when Laura sees Tudor and Helga on stage.

The director says that she wants to explore the preconceptions we have about intimacy and the surprising ways in which it can be achieved. For this, she will show her characters as being torn between their need for attachment and the comfort they receive in their state of total independence.

The €900,000 project is produced by Monica Lăzurean-Gorgan, and the production companies staging it are 4Proof Film, which can now boast about having its documentary Chuck Norris vs Communism [+see also:

film profile] selected in competition at next year's Sundance Film Festival (see the news), and Manekino Film (Romania). RohFilm (Germany) and Unlimited LTD (France) will co-produce, while Marius Iacob will be the DoP.

The film's domestic release is expected for 2016.
