The British Isles will ring in the New Year with two local releases. Working Title Films’ much acclaimed The Theory of Everything [+see also:

, directed by James Marsh (Man on Wire) opens on January 1. A look at the relationship between renowned physicist Stephen Hawking and his wife, the film stars Eddie Redmayne, Felicity Jones and Tom Prior.

Also opening on the same day is Hammer Films’ Woman in Black sequel Woman in Black: Angel of Death, directed by Tom Harper (The Scouting Book for Boys [+see also:

). Starring Helen McCrory, Jeremy Irvine and Leilah de Meza, the film is set 40 years after the first haunting at Eel Marsh House, where a group of children evacuated from WWII London arrive, awakening the house’s darkest inhabitant. Alejandro Iñárritu’s Birdman from Fox Searchlight also opens on the day.

January 2 will see the release of Enemy [+see also:

, directed by Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners) about a man who seeks out his exact look-alike after spotting him in a movie, from Canada’s Rhombus Media and Spain’s Roxbury Pictures. British Film Institute Distribution is re-releasing Eric Rohmer’s classic The Green Ray on the same day.
