Countdown to the first IFFR Live

The 44th International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), which kicks off tonight and will run until 1 February, is launching a new, live cinema event. The inaugural IFFR Live is offering a series of five film screenings during the gathering, to be broadcast simultaneously to more than 34 cinemas and VoD platforms across Europe.

The event was organised by the IFFR in partnership with sales agents Doc & Film, Fortissimo Films and TrustNordisk, which will be putting forward five titles from their line-ups.

Doc & Film is supplying three of the five selected features, including Bernard Bellefroid’s Belgian-French-Luxembourgish co-production Melody [+see also:

and two Dutch productions: Marinus Groothof’s eagerly awaited feature debut, The Sky Above Us [+see also:

, and Ramón Gieling’s music documentary Erbarme Dich – Matthäus Passion Stories.

by Jan-Willem van Ewijk – first seen at the most recent Toronto Film Festival – while TrustNordisk is supporting the Danish title Speed Walking by Niels Arden Oplev.

Besides watching the films in theatres and online, audiences across Europe will also have the opportunity to watch directors and film crews attend the premieres at Rotterdam, and can interact in live Q&A sessions via Twitter.
