The Les Arcs report highlights an upward trend
- The Les Arcs European Film Festival continued its rise to prominence during its sixth edition in December
The work is continuing to pay off for the organisers of the Les Arcs European Film Festival, who have published a numerical assessment of the sixth edition of the event, which took place from 13-20 December 2014. In particular, attendance levels in the gathering’s theatres recorded an increase of 20.4%, reaching 18,298 admissions, while media attendance rose by 28.5%, with strong support from specialist press and a wider range of more mainstream titles with broad appeal.
In total, the gathering presented 120 films (including 79 features) hailing from 27 countries and represented by 71 guests who had been invited to Les Arcs.
The final assessment concluded that there were 1,260 accredited attendees, including 899 film-industry professionals from 29 countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the UK and the USA.
The Coproduction Village (which featured 25 selected projects, representing 13 European countries) has also become a highly popular meeting place over the years, and was for the first time also graced with the presence of the EFAD (European Film Agency Directors) during a round-table dedicated to the issue of copyrights.
Lastly, the Work in Progress session once again piqued a great deal of interest among the industry professionals, and the winner of the prize, Pioneer Heroes by Russian director Nataliya Kudryashova, will have its world premiere in the Panorama at the upcoming Berlinale (5-15 February 2015), which again stands as a testament to the quality of the springboard provided by the Les Arcs European Film Festival. The seventh edition will take place from 12-19 December 2015.
