20/03/2015 - The CNC will support the feature debut by Léonor Serraille as well as those by Frédéric Carpentier, Walid Mattar, Jérôme Reybaud and Alassane Diago

Five feature-debut projects have been accepted during the first 2015 session of the first committee of the CNC’s advance on receipts. Standing out among them is Jeune femme (lit. “Young Woman”) by Léonor Serraille, which will be produced by Blue Monday Productions. Having started out as a film-school graduation project in the screenplay department of La Fémis in 2013, the movie will recount the misfortunes of Paula, who refuses to accept the fact that Joachim, an artist who has been her partner for ten years, is leaving her, and so she follows him to Paris, despite his best efforts. He slams the door on her, but the ever-tenacious Paula does not let herself be discouraged. She stays there, bewildered and lost in this unknown city that pulls her in and assails her at the same time. The possibility of her winning Joachim back presents itself again. However, her solitude, her odd jobs, her brief encounters and even her own bedroom turn all her certainty on its head...

An advance on receipts has also been granted to Jeunesse sauvage [+see also:

film profile] (working title: Les garçons sauvages) by Frédéric Carpentier, a project supported at the writing stage by the Beaumarchais-SACD association, which will be produced by Arturo Mio. The story revolves around a violent teenager who discovers another way of life to his own and whose journey is then engulfed in tragedy.

Another advance has also been promised to Vent du Nord (lit. “North Wind”) by Walid Mattar (Barney Production). The story kicks off in northern France, where Marcel leads a comfortable life that he divides between the betting shop on the corner of the street, going fishing, his family and the shoe factory where he has been working for the last 30 years. The factory gets relocated to Tunisia, and despite being a whinger, Marcel resigns himself to his fate without batting an eyelid. He dreams of becoming a fisherman, but nothing will prove easy... Meanwhile, in the suburbs of Tunis, Foued is unemployed. Without any prospects, he spends his life in the café. But a shoe factory is constructed not far from his house. He starts working there and thus sees a chance to be able to take care of his mother and woo the girl he likes. But nothing will prove easy... The paths of Marcel and Foued cross and intertwine where they least expect it.

The CNC will also back Jours de France [+see also:

film profile] (lit. “Days of France”) by Jérôme Reybaud (Chaz Productions). The story follows a man who leaves everything behind to cross France, aimlessly wandering the landscape and having chance encounters (sexual or otherwise): over four days and four nights, as he loses his way, the person who loves him will attempt to find him again.

Lastly, an advance will go to the documentary project Rencontrer mon père [+see also:
