17/04/2015 - “For the moment I feel really shitty. I cry and cry… yes, a sensitive man,” said the Danish director, who is drinking moderately – “probably not moderately enough”

Danish director Lars von Trier, who last autumn, in his first interview for three years, said he had stopped drinking and was going to AA meetings, also worrying about whether he would be able to make films again when sober, is back at work.

On Wednesday (15 April), he visited the University of Copenhagen – where he studied, before entering the National Film School of Denmark – to be interviewed by associate professor in film and media science Peter Schepelern (which he last did in 2006).

He is still attending AA sessions, but he is no longer on the wagon. “I drink moderately – probably not moderately enough,” he said, according to Danish music-film-fashion magazine Soundvenue.

Other remarks made by the director include: 

“I promised my wife I wouldn’t say anything bad about Muslims (not implying that I have anything bad to say.)”

“I think man is good, but very confused.”

Von Trier disclosed he is still writing The House That Jack Built, an eight-part English-language television series about a serial killer, as seen from the murderer’s point of view.

At last year’s Venice Film Festival, his Zentropa partner, Danish producer Peter Aalbæk Jensen, explained that the series is in development with Danish pubcaster DR’s head of drama, Piv Bernth, looking for “a major international star to play the lead”. Louise Vesth will produce for Zentropa Entertainments.
