Australian director Justin Kurzel, acclaimed for his film Snowtown, will go head to head against some of the heavyweights of world cinema when his latest film Macbeth [+see also:

will be part of the Official Competition at Cannes (May 13-24). A visceral interpretation of William Shakespeare’s famous play about a fearless warrior and an inspiring leader, set on the battlefields and within the landscape of medieval Scotland, Macbeth is a story of a man damaged by war trying to rebuild his relationship with his beloved wife as they grapple with the forces of ambition and desire.

Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard star as Macbeth and Lady Macbeth and other cast members include Jack Reynor, David Thewliss, Paddy Considine and Elizabeth Debicki. Iain Canning and Emile Sherman (Shame [+see also:

Macbeth was developed by Film4 and See-Saw Films, and is financed by Film4 and StudioCanal in association with Anton Capital Entertainment S.C.A., Creative Scotland and DMC Film. StudioCanal handles international sales and will distribute the film in the UK, France and Germany. The Weinstein Company holds US rights.
