After acquiring a number of Bear-awarded titles from this year’s Berlinale (see the news), Film Europe Media Company has got ahead of the game and has already secured films set for a world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next month, starting with the opening title, Standing Tall [+see also:

The selected movies will serve as programming fodder for the second edition of Film Europe's very own film festival, Be2Can, showcasing the selection of European films from the triumvirate of Berlin, Cannes and Venice, and scheduled to run from 7-14 October in selected cinemas, on VoD and on the television channel Film Europe Channel. In addition, Film Europe has bought titles that were expected to appear in the main competition but did not make the list in the end, including Alex van Warmerdam's upcoming film Schneider vs Bax [+see also:

, Aleksandr Sokurov's Francofonia: Le Louvre under German Occupation [+see also:

and Thomas Vinterberg's The Commune. If the films don't appear in the competition sections at one of the three biggest festivals, they won't be eligible for the Be2Can festival, and the company will either screen them at one of the smaller showcases (which might be the case for The Commune at the Scandinavian-orientated festival Scandi) or they will be launched straight onto the theatrical circuit in Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
