film profile] by Marco Ponti. The director of Saint Maradona and Passione sinistra starts filming tomorrow, on 28 May in Polignano a Mare (Bari), for his new film, which is being produced by Fulvio and Federica Lucisano for Italian International with Rai Cinema.

Based on the bestseller of the same name by Luca Bianchini, which was published by Mondadori (which sold over 200,000 copies), with a screenplay written by the author and Ponti with the collaboration of Lucia Moisio, the film stars, alongside Scamarcio and Chiatti, Michele Placido, Maria Pia Calzone, Luciana Littizzetto, Eva Riccobono, Eugenio Franceschini, Dario Bandiera, Enzo Salvi, and Dino Abbrescia, with an appearance by the singer Alessandra Amoroso.

Io che amo solo te is the story of fifty-year-old Ninella (Calzone) and her great love, Don Mimì (Placido), who she couldn’t marry. But then fate deals her an unexpected gift: her daughter Chiara (Chiatti) falls in love with none other than Damiano (Scamarcio), the son of the man she’s always dreamt of, and the two youngsters decide to tie the knot. Chiara and Damiano’s wedding thus becomes a big event for the small town of Polignano a Mare.  

Here we see Ponti directing a film about secret happiness, about the art of waiting and last minute fears. Between irony and emotion, it is a daring journey about love springing up – or returning – when you least expect it, bringing you back into play and taking you where it wants. Like the northwest wind, which blows through the three days of this story, against the backdrop of an Apulia where ancient values and beauty still win out.

Io che amo solo te will be released in theatres next Autumn under distribution by 01 Distribution.
