19/06/2015 - The green light has been given for co-production development support

The German-Danish Coproduction Development Initiative, which Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein (FFHSH) and the Danish Film Institute (DFI) began in summer 2014 in order to strengthen project development with international partners, has greenlit its first project. 

The German production company Nordfilm Kiel GmbH has received €35,000 in order to develop the project In Love and War together with Danish partner Fridthjof Film. The script for this German-Danish co-production will be written by award-winning German author Ruth Toma (Solino, Same Same But Different [+see also:

film profile]) and Danish writer-producer Ronnie Fridthjof (Heartless). The story takes place during World War I and is about a Danish soldier who escapes from the army and hides out close to his farm. When he finds out that his wife has had an affair with a German officer, he faces a question of conscience.

In total, the German-Danish Coproduction Development Initiative supports up to three high-quality fiction features intended to be released in Germany and Denmark with up to €35,000 for each project. The application needs to be filed by a producer from Hamburg or Schleswig-Holstein as well as a Danish partner. “We want to support creative individuals from Denmark and Germany from very early on so that they have the time to develop their projects together, carefully,” says Eva Hubert, managing director of FFHSH.

The jury members who are tasked with selecting the projects are Claus Ladegaard, head of funding at the Danish Film Institute; Noemi Ferrer, head of international at the Danish Film Institute; Eva Hubert; and Katrin Mersmann, from the funding department at FFHSH. The German-Danish Coproduction Development Initiative is running over an initial trial period of three years.
