Written by the director together with Dominik Moll, the story revolves around Tom and Benjamin, two boys aged eight and 11 years old. They are meeting up with their father, who lives in Stockholm, in order to spend their summer holidays with him. When their dad suggests to them to go to the north of the country to spend a few days in a hut in the middle of the forest, the children are over the moon. But the place is a lot more secluded than they had imagined. And as time goes by, the father seems to be less and less concerned about planning a return to civilisation…

For the record, Gilles Marchand snagged two nominations for the César Award for Best Screenplay in 2001 – for Human Resources by Laurent Cantet and With a Friend Like Harry by Dominik Moll. He also co-wrote such titles as Eastern Boys [+see also:

Produced by Mina Driouche, Valérie Donzelli and Jérémie Elkaim for Les Films de Françoise, In The Forest will be co-produced by Swedish outfit Gota Film. Having been pre-purchased by Canal+ and Ciné+, the feature is also benefiting from support from the CNC’s advance on receipts and from Film i Vast. The shoot will take place in Sweden (in the Gothenburg region) and in France. Distribution in France will be handled by Pyramide and international sales by Wild Bunch.
