A debut film, Truth by James Vanderbilt, will open the 10th edition of the Rome Film Fest, which will be held from 16-24 October 2015 under the new artistic direction of Antonio Monda.

The feature-film directorial debut of the American screenwriter, known for his work on The Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2 by Marc Webb and Zodiac by David Fincher, stars Cate Blanchett and Robert Redford, and is a film that draws on the political and journalistic thriller repertoire, following in the wake of All the President’s Men and The Insider. The cast also features Dennis Quaid and Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men).

The film is based on the book Truth and Duty: The Press, the President and the Privilege of Power, written by journalist and television producer Mary Mapes (Blanchett), who worked for years on the CBS programme 60 minutes alongside well-known anchorman Dan Rather (Redford). The film portrays the chain of events that led to the controversial ‘Rathergate’ scandal, on the alleged favouritism showed towards George W Bush that resulted in him being enrolled in the National Guard instead of being sent to Vietnam. This is a film, according to Monda, that is “effectively directed by a debut director who is sure to be a hit”.
