CANNES 2003 Forum

Russia joins the Club

by

The 2nd Co-production Forum, organised by the European Producers’ Club on Friday 16 May at the Cannes Film Festival was a great success. Participation was up on last year with more than 70 companies from 14 European countries.
The UK independents in particular sent a large delegation that included Ingenious Media and The Film Consortium, Germany was represented by EuroArts Entertainment Filmproduktions and the Filme Creative Pool while Italy sent Revolver and Downtown Pictures. Norway, Sweden, Slovenia, Ireland and Luxembourg also sent delegations.
The aim of the Forum was to create and/or consolidate contacts for future pan-European co-productions and the event was further enriched by the presence of potential investors in the form of distributors, regional fund representatives, sales agents and broadcasters like France 2, France 3 and Arte.
The European Producers’ Club is the only association of its kind that represents Europe’s leading producers and it is headed up by Frenchman Jean Cazès (Unicel). The Club’s endeavours are a steadily growing success story that are constantly attracting new participants. Producers’ Club representatives are to be found at epresentatives at all European markets.
Last year a special editing service for Euro co-productions was set up. In 2002 the focus was on Central and Eastern Europe and on the morning of 23 May Russia, a potentially strong territory that is already at the centre of informal disucssions on the European level with organisms like Media Plus and Eurimages, will officially become a Club member.
