Robert Zemeckis and Pablo Larraín will also be attending the 10th edition of the Rome Film Fest, which will be held from 16 to 24 October. The Italian capital’s updated film event, which this year will not have sections and will only award the audience prize (see news article), will be screening The Walk - 3D, the new film by the American Oscar-winning director of Back to the Future, Forrest Gump and Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

The Walk brings the true story of Philippe Petit to the big screen, a French tightrope walker who amazed the city of New York when he walked across a steel wire strung between the two towers of the World Trade Centre (he was already used as the focal point of Oscar-winning documentary Man on Wire [+see also:

). Zemeckis used IMAX 3D technology to make this film, and playing the role of Petit is Joseph Gordon-Levitt. “Yet another extraordinary film from a great director”, remarked the artistic director of the festival, Antonio Monda, “who manages to be original whilst making spectacular films”.

The Film Festival will also be dedicating a complete retrospective to 39-year-old director, screenwriter and film producer Pablo Larraín, who wrote, among others, Tony Manero and No [+see also:

. This is “a filmmaker”, in the words of Mario Sesti, the curator of the festival, “whose films seem to plunge, with incredible self-assurance, like the scalpel of an exceptional surgeon, into the bowels of life”.

The official programme of the 10th Rome Film Fest will be announced on Tuesday 29 September.
