Martin Scorsese, Nicolas Winding Refn, John Lasseter, Géraldine Chaplin, Sophia Loren, Alexandre Desplat and Mads Mikkelsen: the main guests to whom the Lumière Film Festival will pay tribute in Lyon for its 7th edition (being held from 12 to 18 October) are the cream of the crop of international festivals. But the Lumière heritage film festival, organised by Thierry Frémaux, is about much more than this star-studded guest list, as some 90 film experts (actors, filmmakers, historians, critics) will attend to personally present films from the past. Among them are Jacques Audiard, Costa Gavras, Salma Hayek, Alice Rohrwacher, Michel Hazanavicus, Vincent Lindon, Dario Argento, Pablo Trapero, Rolf de Heer, Michel Franco, Radu Mihaileanu, Luis Puenzo, Marco Tullio Giordana, Rachid Bouchareb Daniel Auteuil, Jean-Paul Salomé, Jacques Perrin, Alice Winocour, Thomas Cailley, Philippe Le Guay, Louise Bourgoin and Virginie Efira, without forgetting producer Paolo Branco and the President of Gaumont, Nicolas Seydoux.

In total, the Lumière Festival (which beats its own admissions record every year) will be screening 147 films in the city of Lyon. The programme notably features retrospectives on Martin Scorsese (who will receive the Lumière Prize 2015 and will also have a carte blanche dedicated to him), on the Toho Years and Akira Kurosawa, on eight films by Julien Duvivier and on 30 years of Pixar. Also worth mentioning is the master class A Voyage through French cinema by Bertrand Tavernier, which will dive into the catalogue of production company Gaumont, which turns 120 this year, Viva Mexico!, Curiosities of the 1980s, the New Restorations section, the Sublime moments of silent cinema cine-concerts, the Archive Treasures section, the lively master classes held by the main guests of the festival, Fright Night and the main events held at Halle Tony Garnier, the Auditorium de Lyon and the Centre de Congrès which will welcome an unprecedented number of viewers into the usually muted world of heritage film. And, of course, the Lumière Festival will also have something to offer for industry experts, with the 3rd edition of the Classic Film Market (from 14 to 16 October).
