The French contingent of film productions set to be showcased at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival (21-31 January 2016 – read the news) was padded out yesterday with the addition of three titles that have been selected on the programmes of the two Premieres sections. 

Featuring on the line-up is the Franco-Polish-Belgian co-production Agnus Dei [+see also:

by Anne Fontaine (read the article). Starring Lou de Laâge, Agata Kulesza, Agata Buzek, Vincent Macaigne, Joanna Kulig and Katarzyna Dabrowska, the feature follows a young French woman who is a doctor at the Red Cross and who unearths a dark secret in a Polish convent in December 1945. Executive-produced by Mandarin Cinéma, Agnus Dei is being sold abroad by Films Distribution and will be released in French theatres by Mars Distribution on 10 February next year.

by US director Whit Stillman (The Last Days of Disco, Damsels in Distress), a co-production between Ireland, France (Chic Films and Arte France Cinéma) and the Netherlands. The cast includes such names as Kate Beckinsale and Chloë Sevigny, and the film will be distributed in France on 27 April 2016 by Sophie Dulac.

Lastly, standing out in the Documentary Premieres section is Eat That Question - Frank Zappa in His Own Words [+see also:

 by Thorsten Schütte, produced by Paris-based outfit Les Films du Poisson (which will enjoy a very strong presence at Sundance, as it will also have a documentary in competition) with Germany’s TeamWorx Television & Film.
