In 1992, the Danish national football team had originally failed to qualify for the European Championship in Sweden, but as Yugoslavia was excluded because of the war, Danish trainer Richard Møller Nielsen and his team came in as replacements, going on to surprise the experts and upset the odds by winning the tournament.

, which – after taking more than 300,000 admissions in the local cinemas – has scored five nominations for the Bodil Awards, the Danish Film Critics Association’s annual prizes, which will be handed out on 5 March at Copenhagen’s Bremen Theatre.

The Nina Bisgaard, Meta Louise Foldager and Kris Thykier production for PeaPie Films and Meta Film is being considered for, among others, Best Film, Best Actor (Ulrich Thomsen as the trainer) and Best Supporting Actress (Lene Maria Christensen), and is up against Tobias Lindholm’s A War [+see also:

, both with three nods.

“The nominations were shared by ten films, and even more were close to being candidates, which shows that 2015 was a very strong film year for Denmark, both quality-wise, and in terms of depth and variety,” said Copenhagen-based critic Jacob Wendt Jensen, chairman of the Danish Film Critics Association. In collaboration with the Nordea Foundation, the prize ceremony will be shown simultaneously at cinemas all over Denmark.
