is being shown at the forum after doing the rounds at several showcases such as the Luxembourg City Film Festival, Brussels’ Anima and the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival. The adaptation of five of Edgar Allan Poe’s horror stories was made possible thanks to the involvement of Luxembourg’s Mélusine Productions along with US outfit R&R Communications, Belgium’s The Big Farm and Spain’s Melón Digital.

by duo Toby Genkel and Reza Memari. The story of an orphaned sparrow raised by storks, who has to come to terms with the fact he is actually not one of them, was also co-produced by German companies Knudsen & Streuber and Ulysses Filmproduktion, Norway’s Den Siste Skilling and Belgium’s Walking the Dog.

Also in production, Denis Do’s Funan, the New People – co-produced by Luxembourg’s Juliette Films along with French companies Les Films d’Ici and Epuar, and Belgium's Lunanime – tells the story of a young woman who, under the Khmer Rouge regime, has to learn how to fight back in order to find her son, who was taken from her during her exile in Phnom Penh.

Finally, Luxembourg’s Iris Productions will pitch Enzo d’Alo’s new project, Le Prince de la Cité de Sable, which is currently in development. After Pinocchio [+see also:

, d’Alo is back with a film following a young girl named Rokìa as she crosses the desert to recover the soul that the Prince of the City of Sand has stolen from her grandfather. Michel Fessler shares the scriptwriting credits with d’Alo. The film is being co-produced by France’s Rezo Productions.

Both Extraordinary Tales and the three other forthcoming features are good examples of Luxembourgian producers’ ability to select and get involved in exciting animation projects with growing international appeal. In fact, in recent years, animation has proven to be one of the most stimulating sectors of the Luxembourgian film industry, and it is often recognised at awards ceremonies, as it was at the 2014 Academy Awards (Mr Hublot, which won Best Animated Short) and the latest European Film Awards (where Song of the Sea [+see also:

won Best European Animated Feature).

As at previous editions, this year’s Cartoon Movie is expected to gather over 700 professionals – most of them producers who will get the opportunity to pitch their projects, speed up financing, find partners and negotiate with international distributors.
