Welsh film companies get cash boost

Ffilm Cymru Wales, the agency responsible for developing the film sector in the region, has awarded £180,000 of funding through its Company Support awards scheme to production companies ie ie Productions, Mad As Birds Films, Dogs of Annwn and Joio. ie ie Productions, known for cross-media music documentaries Separado! and American Interior, will use their award to develop their debut feature and develop documentary features and animations. ) will use their award to establish an office in North Wales and develop their slate of film and television content.

South Wales’ Dogs of Annwn (Panic Button, The Lighthouse) will use the award to launch a boutique post-production service. Joio (BAFTA-winning television series Tir) will expand their capacity with a focus on business affairs.

Hannah Thomas, Ffilm Cymru Wales’ Head of Creative Sector Development, said, “Growing sector capacity is an important goal for Ffilm Cymru Wales, with a focus on home-grown talent that provides longevity through future productions and services, and I’m looking forward to working with these companies as they further their plans.”

Previous awardees include Red and Black Films, who produced The Machine and are currently finishing feature Don’t Knock Twice alongside a game; Severn Screen who have completed Welsh language feature Yr Ymadawiad (The Passing); factual entertainment specialists Barefoot Rascals, who have been extending the international sales of their slate; and cross-platform producer Western Edge Pictures who recently released their boxing documentary Mr Calzaghe.
