Sokurov wins Fipresci

International film critics assigned three Fipresci awards in Cannes. The top prize went to Père et Fils by Russia’s Alexandre Sokurov for his “virtuous images and the originality with which he portrays a father-and-son relationship”.

American Splendor by Shari Springer Bergman and Robert Pulcini won the Un Certain Regard Fipresci for “the way they dealt with fiction and reality and the innovative style with which they combined cinema and cartoons.”

Iberian director Jaime Rosales won the Directors’ Fortnight Fipresci for his directorial feature debut, Las Horas del dìa for “his subtle observation of the behaviour of an ordinary man whose only outstanding characteristic is a propensity for murder.”
