Handed out to the very best artists in the world of French and French-language film by foreign journalists working in Paris, much like the Golden Globes, the 21st Lumière Awards were given out last night and served to confirm the supremacy of Mustang [+see also:

by Deniz Gamze Ergüven, which won out in four categories: Best Film, Best Debut Film, Best New Actress (for its five young leads) and Best Cinematography (forDavid Chizallet, who was also nominated for two other works). Interestingly, it was the film’s producer, Charles Gillibert (CG Cinéma), and its co-writer, Alice Winocour, who went up on stage to receive the awards on behalf of the director and the young actresses, who are currently in full campaigning mode in California for the upcoming Oscar for Best Foreign-language Film, for which Mustang is still in the running (read the news).
