The 15th annual Tribeca Film Festival, co-founded by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal, and Craig Hatkoff (running between 13 - 24 April), has announced the winners of its competition categories: the Award for Best Narrative Feature went to Dean (USA), written and directed by Demetri Martin, with the Award for Best International Narrative Feature going to Junction 48 [+see also:

(USA, Germany, Israel), written and directed by Udi Aloni, and Craig Atkinson’s Do Not Resist (USA) being named Best Documentary Feature.

In the International Narrative Feature Film competition, the following European films also won awards: Best Cinematography went to Kjell Vassdal for El Clásico [+see also:

(read the news). Radhika Apte was also named Best Actress in this category for her performance in Clean Shaven, a part of Madly (USA, UK, India, Australia, Argentina, Japan).

Virtual reality was highlighted at this year’s edition of Tribeca, with 23 virtual-reality exhibits and interactive storytelling installations. The festival recognises groundbreaking approaches in storytelling and technology with its Storyscapes Award, which, for 2016, was presented to the French-UK VR project Notes on Blindness: Into Darkness created by Arnaud Colinart, Amaury La Burthe, Peter Middleton and James Spinney (read the interview).

Tribeca’s Nora Ephron Prize, in recognition of the remarkable female filmmaker’s legacy, which aims to inspire a new generation of female writers and directors, went to the British director, writer and editor Rachel Tunnard, for her film Adult Life Skills [+see also:

This year's festival included 102 features, 74 short films and 38 immersive storytelling projects from 42 countries.
