Ardant is new Italian icon
Many of her most recent films were for some of Italy’s greatest directors like Ettore Scola, Michelangelo Antonioni and Franco Zeffirelli, now French star Fanny Ardant is to make a film with Mario Martone in L’odore del sangue, which went into production on 19 May and will last for ten weeks on location in Rome, Venice and Sicily.
Co-produced by Italy’s Bianca Film and Mikado Film and France’s Babe Productions and Arcapix, L'odore del sangue is based on a novel by Goffredo Parise, about a couple torn apart by adultery. Ardant’s co-star is Michele Placido. Le riprese dureranno dieci settimane tra Roma, Venezia e la Sicilia.
Fanny Ardant’s love affair with Italy began in 1987 with Ettore Scola’s La Famiglia, followed in 1988 by La Cena. She co-starred opposite Vittorio Gassman and Carlo Tuzii in L’altro enigma in 1988, Michelangelo Antonioni’s Aldilà delle nuvole in 1995 and Franco Zeffirelli’s Callas Forever in 2002.
Ardant’s presence will contribute to the international and especially French appeal of L’odore del sangue. Two earlier titles of his, Morte di un matematico napoletano and L’amore molesto went down well with French audiences.
