The Filmfest Emden-Aurich-Nordeney opens today and will be taking place until June 18. There are many sections at the event, starting with "The British are coming", dedicated to cinema from the UK, including presentations of Sweet Sixteen [+see also:

by Lone Scherfig (a Danish co-production) and the documentary Live Forever by John Dower, about pop music in the 1990s.

In the "Neue Deutsche Filme" section, the films in competition are Distant Lights by Hans Christian Schmidt (which has already competed at the Berlinale and has recently won a silver "Lola"), We by Martin Gipkens (also shown at the Berlinale in the "Perspektiv Deutsches Kino" section) and Kiss and run by Annette Ernst, with the screenplay written by the ubiquitous Maggie Peren, the author of many successful comedies.
The special events include one looking at the cinema of the Netherlands and there’s also a tribute to the British director, Peter Greenaway. The new elements of this edition include the setting up of a prize dedicated to Bernard Wicki, the German actor and director who died in 2000.
