Histórias Mínimas wins

The 19th Festroia - the International Film Festival of Troia in Portugal ended on a high note on Sunday, 15 June with the presentation of the Dauphin Awards. Festival president, Mário Ventura and artistic director, Fernanda Silva used this occasion to launch an appeal to save the festival, one of the many cultural activities of Portugal that have been hard-hit by the country’s current financial problems.
The international jury of British actor, Nicholas Grace, Portuguese actress Laura Soveral, US journalist, Ron Holloway, German actress, Dorothea Moritz, Hungarian director, Ferenc Moldoványi, Spanish journalist, José Vaz Pereira and Portuguese writer, Pedro Bandeira Freire assigned this year’s Golden Dauphin to Argentine-Iberian co-production, Històrias Mìnimas by Carlos Sorìn.

Silver Dauphins went to Iran’s The Winter Song by Farhad Mehranfar, Kukushka by Russia’s Alexandr Rogozhin while Alice Nellis won for the screenplay of Some Secrets and DP Pedro Farkas won for Desmundo by Alain Fresnot. Finland’s Anni-Christina Juuso won the best actress award for Kukushka and the UK’s Jamie Sives won the best actor award for Wilbur Wants To Kill Himself [+see also:

by Danish filmmaker Lone Scherfig’s, the man behind the recent international hit, Italian For Beginners, also took home the Jury Fipresci (International Film Critics’ Guild) Award. Festroia also gave an Honorary Dauphin to Portuguese actor Ruy de Carvalho in recognition of his forty-year-long career.
The 20th edition of Festroia is scheduled for 28 May- 6 June 2004.
