- Menno Meyjes’ new film adapts Jessica Durlacher’s thriller novel De Held
Post-production on Menno Meyjes’ new feature, The Hero [+see also:
film profile], has wrapped, and the film is getting ready to make its way to theatres. Written by the director himself and Jessica Durlacher (who is adapting her own thriller novel De held, published in 2010), The Hero focuses on a woman who moves back from Los Angeles to the Netherlands with her family and feels devastated when her son decides to sign up for the US Marines. She and her family will soon be victims of a violent burglary, and this episode triggers a period of restlessness and uncertainty: could these violent attacks somehow be related to her father’s secretive war history? Who is haunting them, and how is it possible to keep the family together?
Dutch actress Monic Hendrickx leads a cast that also includes Fedja van Huêt, Daan Schuurmans, Kitty Courbois, Hans Croiset, Susan Visser and Thijs Boermans.
Rachel van Bommel produced The Hero for Millstreet Films with the support of VPRO, CoBO and the Netherlands Film Production Incentive. The world premiere is scheduled for the opening night of the 36th Netherlands Film Festival, which unspools from 21-30 September in Utrecht. The full programme of the upcoming Netherlands Film Festival will be unveiled on 7 September.
