MOD Producciones puts the finishing touches to El otro hermano
- Post-production is currently under way on Israel Adrián Caetano’s film, a dark comedy produced by the Spanish company along with France, Argentina and Uruguay
El otro hermano centres around greed and other human vices through a story written by its director, Israel Adrián Caetano (Red Bear) and Nora Mazitelli, based on the book Bajo este sol tremendo by Carlos Busqued. The film is being funded by Rizoma (Argentina) and is being co-produced by Oriental Features (Uruguay), Mod Producciones (Spain) and Gloria Films (France), in association with Varsovia Films (Argentina) and Film Factory Entertainment (Spain), which will also handle sales, and has received support from the Ibermedia programme.
Shot in Argentina, El otro hermano centres around Cetarti (Leonardo Sbaraglia) and his empty life. Unemployed, he spends his days shut-in at home, watching TV documentaries until he is informed that his mother and brother have been murdered. He travels from Buenos Aires to Lapachito, a run-down village in the province of Chaco, in the north of the country, to take care of the remains and collect the life insurance proceeds. Whilst there he meets Duarte, who sort of runs the village and is a friend of the killer, who also kidnaps people for money. Cetarti ends up taking illegal measures to collect the life insurance proceeds and enters the murky territory of being involved in Duarte’s dark trafficking activities, leading to an absurd and unexpected finale.
The film’s cast also features Daniel Hendler, Alian Devetac, Alejandra Flechner, Max Berliner and Pablo Cedrón, with an appearance from Ángela Molina. Whilst Sbaraglia will be releasing Hispanic-Argentinian thriller Al final del túnel [+see also:
