For three years, the TRIO – comprising three curious youngsters from Skjåk, a village in Eastern Norway – has been hunting for treasures in TV series (for children and young audiences) on Norwegian pubcaster NRK Super: TRIO – Odin’s Gold in 2013 (which won the Norwegian Television Award), TRIO – Cyber Gold in 2014 and TRIO – The Kepler Diamonds in 2015.

Last week, Bjørnar Lysfoss Hagesveen, Naomi Hasselberg Thorsrud and Henrik Hines Grape started on a new job, but not for television: TRIO – The Hunt for the Holy Shrine will be made for cinema by veteran Norwegian director Eva Dahr (who has, since her 2009 feature The Orange Girl [+see also:

“They will try to seek out one of the biggest treasures which has yet to be found – Saint Olav’s (King Olaf II Haraldsson’s) shrine,” said producer Rune H Trondsen, who is in Trondheim with the cast and crew for the shoot at the Nidaros Cathedral. “With 1,000 years of history, Saint Olav’s church is a fantastic place that gives us pictures we could never have recreated in a studio.”

In Trond Morten K Venaasen and Morten Hovland’s screenplay, Simen, Nora and Lars are not the only people searching for the shrine, which has been lost for thousands of years; a group of villainous treasure hunters has also got a lead as to its whereabouts, and during their efforts, both their friendship and their lives will be jeopardised. Shooting will continue in Skjåk, in the fjells of Lofoten and in Hamburg, Germany.

The cast for the feature being produced by Oslo’s NordicStories includes Franziska Tørnquist, Reidar Sørensen, Per Kjerstad, Minh-Khai Phan-Thi, Bernt Bjørn, Ole Vidar Skogheim, Regine Stokkevåg Eide and Markus Bø Gaarden. Nordisk Film Distribution has scheduled the national release for February 2017.
