The San Sebastián Film Festival’s unwavering support for movies made in Latin America seems to bear more and finer fruit every year: five films that took part in the last edition of Films in Progress are competing this year in Horizontes Latinos, a section showcasing the best productions that Latin America has to offer. Of the 13 titles that will be duking it out for the Horizontes Award, worth €35,000 – a sum intended for the director and Spanish distributor – seven European co-productions will make their presence felt, including El Cristo ciego [+see also:

(Chile/France) by Chistopher Murray, which will be competing in Venice in just a few days; The Cambridge Squatter [+see also:

(Cuba/France/Colombia) by Carlos Lechuga, which revolves around the three days that a homosexual Cuban author spends under close watch. These titles will be battling it out with top-drawer names such as Juan Andrés Arango (X Quinientos), Daniel Burman (The Tenth Man) and Rober Calzadilla (El Amparo). The list is rounded off by the Argentinian movie The Long Night of Francisco Sanctis by F Márquez Andrea Testa, Rara by Pepa San Martín and Viejo Calavera by Kiro Russo.

Meanwhile, the Pearls section will screen gems from the Continent for the first time in Spain, after they were shown at other festivals. They include the French titles Elle [+see also:
