Written by the director together with Delphine Agut, the script (which won the Special Jury Prize at the handing-out of the Sopadin Prize for Best Screenplay in 2015 and was selected for the screenplay readings at the 2016 Premiers Plans Festival in Angers) begins in 2002, as the murder of a labour-court judge reopens old political wounds between Italy and France. Marco, a journalist and former left-wing activist taking refuge on the other side of the Alps during the Mitterrand presidency, is forced to flee with his 15-year-old daughter. In a remote, isolated house somewhere in the depths of the Landes forest, their lives will be turned upside down forever, as they also sweep along Anna and her everyday middle-class life, and she finds herself in Rome paying for the mistakes that her brother made in the past.

Executive-produced by Stéphanie Douet for Sensito Films and Tom Dercourt for Cinéma Defacto, After the War is being co-produced by Italian outfit Movimento Film. Having secured backing from such sources as the CNC’s advance on receipts, the Aquitaine region, the Gan Foundation, the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities (MiBACT) and the Emilia-Romagna region, the film was also supported at the project stage by the MiBACT’s development support for French-Italian co-productions and by the CNC. The six-week shoot will take place between 5 September and 25 October in the Landes department and in Bologna. The French distribution and international sales will be helmed by Pyramide.
