The ninth edition of the CinEast – Central and Eastern European Film Festival in Luxembourg will be held from 6-23 October. The line-up will be announced in its entirety on 20 September, but the organisers have already unveiled the opening film.

by Oscar-winning Bosnian director Danis Tanović will have the honour of opening the gathering. The film, an ensemble drama set in a Sarajevo hotel and centring on the 100th anniversary of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, had its world premiere last February at the Berlinale, where it won the Grand Jury Prize and the FIPRESCI Award. It is also Bosnia’s submission for Best Foreign-language Film at the upcoming Academy Awards (read the news).

Over 60 features and 40 shorts will take part in this year’s CinEast, which has also programmed a cycle dubbed “Away from Home” (dedicated to those leaving their home, either voluntarily or by force), photo exhibitions and parties, including two film concerts.
