"Beyond Gibraltar"

by

Au-delà de Gibraltar, directed by the Turkish-born German Taylan Barman and Mourad Boucif, a Moroccan who was born in Algeria, has won two more important prizes: the best director and actor awards (for Mourain Maimuni) at the Oujda Film Festival of Morocco (7-15 June 2003).

Released domestically on 13 March 2002, Au-delà de Gibraltar is continuing its spectacular international life cycle. It was selected for screening at numerous leading festivals including Gand, Cairo, Fribourg, and won the Audience Award in Mons and a special mention at Rome’s Medfilm.
It is the story of a Moroccan called Karim (played by Mourad Maimuni), who immigrates to Belgium with his family. The day Karim graduates from high school coincides with his father’s losing his job. As a result, Karim must take responsibility for the household, and is faced with the ordeals of racism and unemployment.
