Get set for 3D Wire 2016

This week (Thursday to Sunday) Segovia will welcome 3D Wire, an international festival of animation, video games and new media now in its eighth year, and one of the sector’s most hotly anticipated events. 148 Spanish projects have been selected for the market, including shorts, feature films, animated series, VR and apps. Just two of the top names set to attend are Niko, the creator of animated series Cálico Electrónico, who will be offering an exclusive first look at his latest work, and Manuel Sicilia (Justin and the Knights of Valour [+see also:

A wide range of professionals (producers, distributors, critics, new talent and more) will be heading to the Spanish city this weekend from the USA, Mexico, Estonia, the UK and France—and there will of course be a healthy contingent from Portugal, this year’s special guest country.

45 short films in total will screen in the festival itself. 3D Wire is the only Cartoon D’Or official partner event to be held in Spain, and all films that win prizes in Segovia will be automatically preselected for the prestigious European competition (Spanish short Alike was shortlisted this year, thanks to a prize scooped at 3D Wire last year). 3D Wire is also a qualifying festival for the Goya Awards.

The festival’s mission is to support the animation, virtual reality and augmented reality (AR) sector in Spain, with a full day dedicated to attracting private investment. On Thursday (6 October), a series of round-table discussions will be held, with presentations from studios as well as potential investors, in an event firmly aimed at providing networking and connection opportunities for professional attendees. The discussions will cover a number of industry hot topics, including online series, the use of viral marketing as a film promotion tool and transmedia animation.

Find out more about the programme of events, the full schedule and other details on the official 3D Wire website.
