Vicente Villanueva is shooting Toc toc with Paco León
- Spanish director is set to bring Laurent Baffie’s hugely successful play, which has enjoyed several years’ uninterrupted run in Madrid, to the big screen
Filming is currently underway in Madrid and the surrounding area for the ensemble comedy Toc Toc, a cinematic adaptation of Laurent Baffie’s work of the same name which, six years after its first performance, is still delighting theatre-goers in Spain, Argentina, Chile and a number of other countries. Vicente Villanueva is directing the film, which will be his third full-length venture following The Opposite of Love [+see also:
film profile] and Born to Win [+see also:
film profile] — his earlier short films (including Mariquita con perro, Heterosexuales y casados and El futuro está en el porno) having achieved cult status among European film fans. Toc Toc stars the hyperactive and highly versatile Paco León: actor (film, theatre and television), filmmaker and restless spirit, whose social media followers number in the thousands.
León is once again joined by Alexandra Jiménez, last seen in We are Pregnant [+see also:
film profile] and Kiki, Love to Love [+see also:

film profile] (an international commercial hit, directed by León himself), along with Rossy de Palma (Julieta [+see also:

film profile]), Inma Cuevas, Adrián Lastra and Nuria Herrero.
For the benefit of those unfamiliar with the original French play, Toc Toc features a group of patients who gather in the waiting room of an eminent psychologist, all suffering from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (or TOC, in Spanish). The doctor is running late, and so they are obliged to wait, struggling to keep their various manias, impulses, compulsions, obsessions and rituals in check. The fact that viewers may well identify with some aspects of their behaviour makes for a fertile source of comedy.
With cinematography by David Omedes (Cerca de tu casa [+see also:
film profile]), Toc Toc is a co-production between Lazona Films (Spanish Affair [+see also:
film profile]) and Atresmedia Cine. The film will go on general release in Spain next year, with international sales managed by Warner Bros Pictures.
