Jan Verheyen unveils the very first images of Control
- The shoot for the third instalment in the saga that began with The Alzheimer Case is under way; the movie should burst onto Belgian screens in late 2017
Jan Verheyen is currently preparing to wrap the shoot for Control [+see also:
film profile], the third film to feature the characters of inspectors Vincke and Verstuyft, who rose to fame thanks to the national and international success of The Alzheimer Case [+see also:
film profile] (2003), and who also appeared in 2009’s Dossier K [+see also:
film profile]. Unusually, Verheyen, Eyeworks and Kinepolis have already gone and unveiled the first images of the film, which is slated to hit Belgian screens in October 2017. The three movies are adaptations of crime novels written by Flemish author Jef Geeraerts. Once again, inspectors Vincke and Verstuyft, who have been friends longer than they care to remember, are faced with a series of horrific murders, which they will have to get to the bottom of with the help of one of the killer’s surviving victims. That is, unless this victim, who appears to hold great sway over Verstuyft, leads them further from the solution. The two lead roles are played by Koen de Bouw and Werner De Smedt. The former would now seem to be a familiar face in thrillers with strong box-office potential, as besides his role in The Alzheimer Case and Dossier K, he also popped up in the credits of Loft [+see also:
film profile], the biggest Belgian box-office success to date, and he is currently filling the shoes of the Belgian prime minister in Flemish film De Premier [+see also:
film profile], which has proven to be a true smash hit at the box office as we approach the end of the year (read the news).
In all likelihood, Control will turn out to be the biggest Flemish success at the box office at the end of 2017. With a release scheduled for 25 October, the movie should be able to make the most of the autumn half-term holiday, and could potentially extend its run to the Christmas and New Year festivities. We also find another seasoned expert in box-office hits helming this film, as we have Jan Verheyen to thank for such varied successes as the Dossier K thrillers, as already mentioned, The Verdict [+see also:
film profile], the rom-com Zot van A. (a remake of a Dutch box-office smash) and FC de Kampionnen 2: Jubilee General [+see also:
film profile], the second big-screen instalment of an adaptation of a sitcom that has achieved cult status in Flanders, and which turned out to be the undisputed champion of the Belgian box office in 2015, racking up more than 630,000 admissions. We’ll have to wait until October 2017 to see whether the predictions are correct.
