The film is an adaptation of the highly popular novel Suck It, Ramona, written by Andrei Ciobanu. The author is one of the project's screenwriters, together with Alex Coteţ. The story centres on Andrei, a teenager who is suffering through his first love for the girl of his dreams, the attractive but reluctant Ramona. In order to impress her, Andrei is willing to do anything, thus becoming the hero of a series of amusing and bittersweet misadventures.

“We have finally started the casting, and we have been working on the screenplay for some time,” says Iacob in a press release. As for finding the right actors, the director compares the endeavour with looking for a needle in a haystack, as she needs “youngsters who look 16, but who are actually at least 18”. Iacob’s team has organised casting sessions in several big Romanian cities.

She says that initially, she was repelled by the book’s title, but its popularity amongst the younger generation (allegedly more than one million Romanian teenagers have read it online) made her change her mind. “I was pleasantly surprised to discover a beautiful love story, a story we all know from our adolescence,” says Iacob about the reasons that convinced her to adapt the novel.

If she succeeds in releasing Confessions of a Teenager next year, she will become one of the very few Romanian directors to have directed and released four features in four consecutive years.
