The horror movie is based on the novel of the same name, written in 1974 by Lois Duncan (I Know What You Did Last Summer), who passed away recently, and boasts a chiefly female cast, also comprising Anna Sophia Robb, Rosie Day, Kirsty Mitchell, Victoria Moroles, Isabelle Fuhrman, Noah Silver, Taylor Russell and Jim Sturgeon. The plot of the film, with a screenplay written by Michael Goldbach and Chris Sparling (Buried), featuring generous helpings of Gothic and supernatural elements, follows the story of young girl Kit Gordy as she excitedly starts at an exclusive private school for girls, housed in a mansion called Blackwood Hall, which is shrouded in dark legends. There, her nightmare begins – a nightmare in which the headmistress (played by Thurman) will play a key role.
