Rage: Jogging towards a new life
- Michal Wegrzyn’s film hits theatres with Jakub Swiderski in the lead role. A feature film produced and distributed by Alter Ego Pictures
Rage [+see also:
film profile] (Wscieklosc), which hits screens in Poland today, has a simple and symbolic premise: one man, one road, one mobile phone, and a few conversations that turn his life upside down.
After The Story of a Woman (awarded most notably at the film festivals of Jakarta and Nador in 2015-2016), the independent fraternal duo made up of director Michal Wegrzyn and director of photography Wojciech Wegrzyn is once again broaching the themes of family life, choices impacting on professional and personal fulfilment, self-esteem, and relationships with other people.
Rage, which took home the title of Best Film last year at the Lisbon Film Festival, is a drama nourished by elements from the thriller genre. The viewer follows Adam’s movements very closely (with a camera that never strays far from his face). After going to the gym, to put off going home where his wife and kids await him, he decides to go for a jog and takes a longer route, one meant for road cyclists and runners. There are no shortcuts: he must run 15 kilometres. But this run, interrupted by multiple phone calls, slowly but surely turns into a nightmare. There are unforeseen events, but Adam’s inner self also changes, to the point of no return where he must ask himself some key questions on the meaning of his life.
The cast features Jakub Swiderski (Afonia and the Bees, Walesa : Man of Hope [+see also:
film profile]) in the role of Adam, Paulina Chapko (Suicide Room [+see also:
