Eight days after the unveiling of the official selection for the 70th Cannes Film Festival (17–28 May), US actress Uma Thurman has been named as the president of the jury for the Un Certain Regard section (see news).

Following breakthrough roles at the age of 17 in Dangerous Liaisons (Stephen Frears) and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (Terry Gilliam), Thurman went on to become something of a muse to Quentin Tarantino, appearing in films such as Pulp Fiction (winner of the Palme d’Or in 1994) and Kill Bill (Volumes 1 and 2), all featured at Cannes. The actress recently joined the cast of Lars von Trier’s new film, The House that Jack Built.
