Miguel Hermoso wins in Moscow

by

Last year, Italy’s Tavianis triumphed at the Moscow Film Festival. This year, another European and Mediterranean to boot, Miguel Hermoso won Grand Prix at the 25th edition with a feature entitled La luz prodigiosa.
Before a star-studded VIP audience headed up by the Russian president, Vladimir Putin and international guests like Italy’s Gina Lollobrigida, France’s Fanny Ardant and America’s Steven Seagal, Hermosa, 61, expressed his sincere surprise on learning that his film had been selected over the 19 in competition, four of which were Russian. Hermosa, a native of Granada, told the audience how proud he was to have won plaudits from both the jury and the public who rewarded him with the audience award.
Co-produced by Italy and Spain, La Luz Prodigiosa is based on a short story by Fernando Marìas about a young priest who succours a man wounded in the Spanish Civil War. Only many years later does he discover that the wounded man was poet, Federico Garcìa Lorca. The cast includes Nino Manfredi and José Luiz Gòmez.
