Directed by Paula van der Oest, Zus & Zo, a film that’s reminiscent of Antonia’s Line (1995) and Character (1997), was nominated for a best foreign film Oscar and then sold in a number of territories like Israel, Australia, Canada, Greece, Thailand, Latin America, Central Europe, the United States and Scandinavia.
At the last edition of Cannes, Miramax picked up Twin Sisters by Ben Sombogaart for the US. The film was also acquired by Hong Kong, Switzerland, Mexico, Israel and Norway. On the domestic front, it sold 600,000 tickets, outdoing Harry Potter 2 and Two Weeks Notice.
Pieter Kramer’s musical, Yes Nurse! No Nurse”, presented at the Berlinale, attracted over 420,000 spectators. It was picked up by Italy, Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand, Greece, Malaysia and Switzerland and is still doing the rounds at several international festivals. Pieter Kuijpers’ directorial feature debut, Godforsaken sold more than 180,000 tickets domestically and went on to become the biggest Dutch success story of the year.
